Believe it or not, education doesn’t stop at graduation. Whether you’re just breaking into the biz, or got your start in advertising in the Mad Men era, there is always room for growth.

Join REBUS on Tuesday, September 11,  in the heart of Midtown Alley – St. Louis’ fastest growing neighborhood and home to many of the city’s finest creative firms –  for a special presentation from marketing and design agency, Atomicdust.

Inspired by Stefan Sagmeister’s, “Things I Have Learned in My Life So Far,” Atomicdust’s owners, designers, developers and account managers will share highlights from their 11 years in business. Along the way, they’ll showcase some of their favorite projects, share sound advice and even show some embarrassing photos from Atomicdust’s humble beginnings.

REBUS Recap: Self-Branding and Shinola Part III

They came. They saw. They had their portfolios reviewed.  On June 12th The Creative Group sponsored the 3rd Annual Self Branding and Shinola for over 75 attendees at FK studios. Danny Elchert, ex REBUS co-chair and mastermind behind the event, put together a blockbuster lineup of speakers that included Eduardo Nieuwenhuyzen, Sr. Director of Visual + Dimensional Design at Switch, Kay Cochran, Vice President/Creative Director of Rodgers Townsend, Tracy Fulton, Vice President, Director, Business Leadership from Momentum Worldwide, Dan Curran, President and Founder, 4ORCE Digital and Sharon Ayres, Vice President, Human Resources of Moosylvania.

The speakers ran through a ton of material relevant to the job searching process for young professionals. Eduardo and Danny gave an in-depth look into the timeline of the hiring process, Sharon offered some insightful tips into the softer side of maintaining good connections in the St. Louis advertising market, Tracy Fulton offered some very straight forward information on acting like you want a job, and Kay Cochran gave the writers in the crowd some good perspective on how to build their portfolio. REBUS Recap: Schmooze and Cruise

What happens when you load up single school bus with beer and cruise your way to three agencies in a single night? Well, Jon Simons wins an American flag, Moose buys 47 pizzas, Andrew Mullins takes enough pics with Instagram to fill a photo album, and everyone goes home happy.

Big thanks to everyone who attended the REBUS Schmooze and Cruise as well as Geile Leon, Cannonball, and Moosylvania, who helped us celebrate what will almost certainly become an annual event in the future. May 24th was a fantastically fun night that saw 50 attendees cruise from agency to agency in an extremely brand-appropriate yellow school bus. For just $12, REBUS members, who were lucky enough to RSVP early, enjoyed a night of advertising trivia, fantastic prizes, and so much beer and food that we needed a bus to haul all of it.

It will certainly go down as one of the most exciting events in REBUS history, but look for more fun and engaging events coming up, including our annual portfolio review. Self Branding and Shinola is coming up on Tuesday, June 12! That’s just around the corner! Open REBUS Leadership Team Posistions

REBUS has opportunities for a few go-getters to join our leadership team! The leadership team is the backbone of REBUS, and while we each have specific roles, we all contribute to the overall direction and mission of the organization. In return for your brainpower, attendance at events and a lunch meeting once a month, you’ll get all sorts of resume-friendly skills and experience, plus terrific networking opportunities…and free lunch once a month.

If you’re interested in helping us take on the local ad world in any of the below positions, shoot us an email at to tell us a little bit about yourself, what position(s) you’d like to be considered for and why you’ll rock as part of our leadership team. Feel free to include any relevant experience along with what your favorite past REBUS event was!

Special Event Manager: (1 – 2 committed volunteers for a year-long role)

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates special events and activities including yearly Shinola: Portfolio Polish, Annual Planning Meeting, and any other events REBUS participates in.
  • Actively pursues recruiting new members and contributors to the organization via networking events, school lists, Social Marketing platforms, recommendations, etc.
  • Leader of fresh thinking brainstorms/online discussions/host communication, participating in outreach and gathering of new ideas for REBUS’ future.

Secretary: (1 volunteer for a year-long role)

  • Record minutes at leadership and planning meetings. Track action items for leadership team.
  • Send out email reminders to leadership team as needed.
  • Work with co-Chairs to plan events and agendas.
  • Assist CFO with managing/maintaining the REBUS database.

Openly Disruptive, a group who’s mission is to explore the junction where ideas, technology, and context meet in our evolving world, is hosting a Manufacturing the Future conference on April 4 at Plush on Locust. While we just got the info on this event, it looks like there are upcoming events coming later this year that we’ll definitly be checking out.
