Doors open at 5:30pm followed by presentations from some of St. Louis’ top creative minds. After these quick, insightful discussions, agency professionals from other top local agencies will review your portfolio and offer expertise on prepping that resume, assembling your portfolio, interviewing in the St. Louis area, and most importantly…getting a job. 

In addition to access to top industry speakers and portfolio reviewers, your $20 ticket also gets you chance to network with seasoned advertising professionals, check out the space at FK, and enjoy good food and beverages. 

This event is great for agency newcomers, long-time advertising personnel looking to brush up on their knowledge, and college students alike, but make sure to RSVP ASAP. The first 25 paid reservations are guaranteed one-on-one portfolio reviews with leaders from some of St. Louis’ top agencies, and space is limited to 100 attendees.

FleishmanHillard beeindruckt (that’s true German for impressed!) the audience Tuesday night with their presentation of Advolution: How Ads Start To Finish. 

Executive Creative Director Tom Hudder showcased FH’s new ATL (English acronym for above the line) Kräftig creative for radio, outdoor TV, packaging and premium goods. Kräftig Brand Manager Mike Brooks then explained his goal for promoting the brand and why FH made such a great fit. To paraphrase a bit, his direction to FH went something like this, “We want to really play up the flavor and sessionability of this beer. Oh, and make it funny as shit!”

The FH team discussed how Kräftig is brewed using Reinheitsgebot (RHINE-heights-geh-boat), the German Beer Purity Law, unlike any other domestic lager and light beer. They also confessed their whimsical thoughts throughout the creative process and how they narrowed down the focus.

The crowd at Harry’s listened intently while experiencing Reinheitsgebot and some appetizers. After their presentation, the team opened the floor to questions. And had answers for all, including “did you ever consider using sex appeal like other beers?”. FH encouraged us to recall Language Lessons: Sausage ad, and to stay tuned for the next round of Kräftig ads….

Besides showing off some great creative and providing us with köstlich (German for yum) purity brewed Kräftig and Kräftig light, the FH team left us with some key points:

–       Go ahead and produce your off-the-wall ideas to do them justice, and the client may buy off on them. Just like the Kräftig Reinheitsgebot Song.

–       Always use a LIVE international interpreter for translation to make sure you don’t talk in offensive language or context!

We saw new faces at this Advolution event, along with lots of mingling and awesome local creative work. Thanks to FleishmanHillard for making behind-the-STL-ad-scenes front, center and fun.

Ever watch footage of a man drinking brewed refried beans in the name of social media glory? If you were at our last event, then yeah, you have. A special thanks to all of the REBUS members and non-members alike who made it out to our networking event September 11th, hosted by local digital, design firm Atomicdust.

Their spacious, loft style office is decorated with framed lyrics like, “Everyday I’m Hustlin,” and the large garage door in the back opened to let everyone enjoy a little fall-is-finally-coming air with their drinks and conversation. The evening provided a large group of like-minded St. Louis ad folk a chance to mingle, eat delicious Jimmy John’s, and be enlightened while Atomicdust main players delivered their industry insight and words of wisdom.

Inspired by designer Stefan Sagmeister’s “Things I have learned in my life so far,” Creative Director Mike Spakowski and Account Director Jesse McGowan taught us their most important lessons learned in Atomicdust’s 11 years in the biz. What started with a few guys, a couple old-school mac computers, and a dream, eventually became an agency that believes that passion and imagination should exist without boundaries. From drinking an array of brewed beans (literally any bean you can think of) to creating social media buzz for Goshen Coffee to photo copying their faces for Face-Off Against Hunger, they are willing to put themselves out there. The single most important lesson, according to the Atomicdust team, is to learn all of life’s lessons for yourself and be willing to put yourself and your passions out there for everyone to see.

REBUS Recap: Nick’s Pub Happy Hour

We came. We saw. We played RBI Baseball, shuffleboard, and pool. Shout out to all the REBUS members who came out to Nick’s for the REBUS Happy Hour on August 23rd. A hodge-podge of longtime members and new, fresh faces, the REBUS Happy Hour offered a great chance for some of St. Louis’ young ad interns to network with a few agency professionals who were in their shoes not too long ago.

Driven by a write up on The Saint Louis Egotist and a quirky, talk-show-inspired video, the event drew a favorable crowd on a night when the ad world was in full swing with the BBQ in the Locust Business District. “It was great to finally get to meet some of the people I have seen around LinkedIn and mentioned in conversation,” said Marshon Rogers, creative intern at Switch: Liberate Your Brand.

The second floor of Nick’s Pub offered a nice, cozy place to get together, and an easy highway for quick conversation. Notably, large groups from GROUP360 WORLDWIDE and Schupp Company made it out for the event, including Jake Cann, copywriter intern at Schupp Company who mentioned the projects for The Albert Pujols Foundation and Stray Rescue that he had a chance to work on during the summer.

Our next event is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, September 11th at Atomic Dust. “Things We’ve Learned So Far,” will showcase some of Atomicdust’s favorite projects, share sound advice, and even show some embarrassing photos from Atomicdust’s humble beginnings.

With over 55 RSVPs to date, this event should be a big one. Food and drink will be provided by Atomicdust – and trust us, these guys know how to throw a party. This is an event you won’t want to miss.
